Today was the Kirkwood Lions Club Fishing Derby at Kirkwood Park. We thought we'd give it a try, but who knew the kids (and parents) would have such a great time. All we had to bring was our own bait (hotdogs because it was too stormy last night to dig for worms) and the Lions provided the rods. Adam caught a few bluegills and one small catfish. Emily had some small bluegills and one nice sized one. As we were leaving, the Lions gave the kids their own fishing poles and tackle kits - it was a really surprising gift. We told them we would put them to good use at Green Lake later this summer.
We fished for about an hour before the kids got too hot - then we walked across the parking lot and enjoyed the pool for about 3 hours! It's very hot and humid here today, but I'd say this was a great family Saturday.
