It may not look the greatest, but for a 4 year old, I think it looks great! I need to keep working on this and maybe soon I'll only have to make 2 beds daily. Adam was SO proud of his bed making activity this morning. If this keeps up, Adam might earn himself enough dollars to buy himself the Stormtrooper Blaster gun from Star Wars!
So maybe Emily's nap was due to the fact that she has a 103-degree fever?
She has never missed a day of school since we moved to St. Louis. Not for illness, vacation, doctor appointments - anything. Tomorrow will be her first :(
Random thoughts on our Sunday...
Amy and I started the day by running in the CASA 5K BLUE Skiddoo - a charity race in Rock Hill (the next town over). For those of you regular readers, this is the town with the awesome police beat articles. I have some interaction with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) through my work (we provide them with office space and some funding), and we wanted to support this good cause. (CASA provides volunteers who serve as a St. Louis Family Court-appointed advocate for absued and neglected children. They work to prevent the child from getting lost in the system by being sensitive to the child's needs and presenting these needs to the Court.)
As for the race, Amy and I were joking about what the course would be as we drove to pick up our packets yesterday afternoon. Our worst fears were confirmed when the organizers told us where we would be running - 3 streets of ridiculous hills with a downhill finish. Just what we wanted exactly one week after our second half marathon of the month. Amy ran her typical good race, but I went out and kicked that course's butt. My average mile time was under 8 minutes for all 3.1 miles - something I've never done before.
Last Sunday, it was 50 degrees and rainy during the half-marathon downtown. Today it is about 90 degrees with a strong breeze. I'm not complaining about the temperature, but it would have been nice to have some "inbetween time". It seems like the entire world is now covered in a fine green pollen, and pink, white, yellow, and red flowers are everywhere to be seen.
After the race, the kids "helped" me wash my car and enjoyed some time outside playing with the hose and running through the grass. The pollen and freshly cut grass, however, has made Adam's skin a mess. Isn't it bad enough that the kid can't eat dairy, eggs, or peanuts? By the time we came inside, Adam's legs were covered with some sort of rash/hives.
We got the kids cleaned up, loaded Adam with Benadryl, and he sacked out for a good 2.5 hours. I was just shocked to see Emily asleep on the couch - she never naps, so she's either worn out or feeling a bit under the weather herself. We hear that Papa Jack has self diagnosed himself with Swine Flu, however I'm confident she's clean.
As I write, we're getting ready for dinner. Turkey burgers and fresh fruit salad (we're thankful that the Kirkwood Farmer's Market is back open!). We also made some brownies stuffed with chocolate chip cookies as a post-race treat and a thank you to our neighbor who watched the kids for us during the race this morning. I'm sure these are horrible for you, but everything's good in moderation - right?

Me: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Adam: "A Darth Vader Jedi."
Me: "How old do you have to be to do that?"
Adam: "Just five."
What Adam wants when he turns 5:
Adam: "When I turn 5, can I have a real gun?"
Why Adam didn't like me at bathtime:
Adam: "I don't like you."
Me: "Why not?"
Adam: "You don't understand the rules of the dark side."
Me: Laughing...."haha..."
Adam likes me again:
Adam: "Mom, I like you again."
Me: "Why?"
Adam: "You understand that Darth Vader is powerful."
Me: "Ok...."
Oh Adam, we're so glad that you are in our lives. You never cease to make us laugh!
I've been meaning to post Emily's 9th Birthday party pictures! So tonight while Paul is on his first post half-marathon run and kids are in bed, I am blogging for the first time from my computer! Thanks Paul for hooking me up with a new, fast CPU. Not only is the CPU lightning fast, but I can now get to all our pictures that are on Paul's computer.
NOTE: There are no pictures of Emily opening gifts this year. Emily decided, on her own, that she wanted her guests to make donations to the Ronald McDonald House instead of receiving gifts. Paul and I are VERY proud of her decision to raise money for the families that need to use the Ronald McDonald House instead of receiving gifts. Our girl is growing up to be a thoughtful young lady!
