Vacation Update

We're having a fun and exciting spring break in Islamorada, FL (Florida Keys). We made the trip down to see Ninny and Papa Strack.

So far, the weather has been so-so. The temperatures have been around 78 with low humidity, which would be perfect except for the wind which has keep us on land.

Here are some picture highlights from our trip so far.

Em's Birthday

It is hard to believe Emily is 9 years old already! Grandma and Grandpa Kreidler came down to celebrate the big day. We started with presents and then headed over to Lowe's for the kids craft - this week's project was table-top basketball. I'm happy to report that, despite a few close calls, Emily managed NOT to hit my finger with the hammer.

After lunch, Amy, Emily, and Grandma Kreidler went to Yucando - an arts and crafts studio, to get their craft on. Emily made a dog (surprise) which is now proudly displayed on her dresser.

We then headed over to Kirkwood for Emily's birthday dinner at Bar Louie, her favorite place.

The day ended with birthday cake at home.

For Emily's 9th birthday, we surprised her with new, big-girl bedroom furniture. We started working the minute she left for school, and finished just before she got home today.

A Day with Ninny

Amy was gone for her semi-annual scrapbooking weekend (where a bunch of middle-aged women sit around and cut out circles all day) and Ninny Cindy was in town. Apparently, Amy thinks I can't handle the kids on my own. Okay, it's actually because she wants to leave for her weekend first thing Friday morning, and I wasn't able to take the day off.

On Saturday, the kids and I took Ninny to the St. Louis Science Center, and we made the most of our trip. We started with an I-Max movie about the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon, focused on water conservation. We then headed to see the traveling exhibit of Sue the T-Rex (a copy of the original on display at the Field Museum in Chicago). After a visit with Sue and a few dinosaur-themed crafts, we grabbed some lunch and then went to the discovery room. Adam and Ninny played with dinosaurs while Emily and I played with the water table, built with some magnetic blocks, etc.

Trivia Night at NG

North Glendale holds a trivia night for the parents as a fundraiser (which we attended this year), and they also hold trivia nights for the kids. Each group selects a theme, decorates their table, brings snacks, etc. - just like the adults, hopefully minus any alcoholic beverages.

The theme at Emily's table was American Girl, with each girl bringing their doll and matching outfits.
