Yesterday I flew to Chicago to attend an all class reunion for my grade school - St. Mary's School in Griffith, Indiana. Talk about a blast from the past!
I picked up my date (Lisa) and we headed to the school open house. What an odd feeling to be in that building as an adult! So much of the school looks the same, but many things have changed as well. For instance, there was no preschool and kindergarten when we started there in 1979. Also, there were two classes per grade, but now only one class per grade.
We started the open house "in 3rd grade" reminiscing about our SMS years. We laughed as we remembered the teachers and the classmates we went to school with for 8 years. For instance, when we were saying our prayers at day's end in 4th grade, the lighting fixture fell from the ceiling, narrowly missing us! As we went from 3rd grade to 8th grade, we chatted with various people and teachers while drinking a beer we got from the principal's office!
Anyways, after making the rounds through the 2nd floor, we quickly visited 1st and 2nd grade (in the basement) before heading over to the dinner at Hildebrandt Hall where we ate a Family Style dinner and chatted with more people and teachers.
The night was actually very enjoyable and it didn't end at Hildenbrant Hall.....Stay tuned as I will blog about that part of the night after the kids get baths and in bed!
Drinking our beers in the principal's office. (Hey Jeff, does the pricipal's office look familiar?)
The Class of 1987 that was present.
