Gordon Sets Freshman Debut Record with 33 Points

Eric Gordon was impressive in his freshman debut in an Indiana uniform (at the REAL Assembly Hall) scoring 33 points including 7-of-11 3-pointers, to lead No. 8 Indiana to a 99-79 victory over Chattanooga before a crowd of 17,179.

It was the most points by a freshman in his debut in school history, and just three points off the most by an IU freshman. Jay Edwards scored 36 points in a game in March 1988. The most points by an IU player in his debut game had been 26 by George McGinnis as a sophomore in 1970.

More impressive than his offense was his defense which suffocated Chattanooga players during the 2nd half.

Chattanooga coach John Shulman said, "This is not an easy atmosphere for anybody to come in, especially on Eric Gordon Freshman Night. They should have given out posters. I'd get mine autographed.''
