What a tired crew we all are tonight!
Em and I went back outside today at 3:15. We were out there until 4 when I got Adam up from his nap and he joined us outside. I shoveled just enough of the lower driveway so Paul could get the Grand Prix in the driveway when he arrived home from work. Some neighborhood friends came over to play. I noticed that the house across the street wasn't shoveled and the dad was still at work and there was no way he'd get his car into the driveway. So, I headed over there and the next thing I know, two other neighbors (not the ones that lived there) helped me clear that driveway and the one next to it. Then, we headed down the street to clear a LONG driveway for a family that was at their grandpa's funeral today. At that house, there was 10 of us shoveling (yes, it was that long!). We then proceeded to clear 3 more driveways. Man, momma is sure sore and tired tonight! While we were doing that, our neighbor McKenzie was watching the kids at our house. She enjoyed all the kids but especially Adam!
On my way back up the street, I saw that Paul was home. He changed his clothes and joined us outside. We finally came in for grilled cheese and tomato soup at 7!
The official total in Kirkwood was 9.5. I think we had slightly more than that, but didn't measure. I think all the Kreidlers will sleep well tonight!
One last thought about our Brownell Avenue neighbors. While I was clearing the first driveway after I cleared ours, a neighbor (whose brother was the first police officer shot and killed at the Kirkwood City Hall a few weeks ago) stopped by to talk to me on her way out. She said she'd been busy since her brother was killed and wanted to thank me for contributing to the food and beverages that our street provided after her brother was killed. She said that the neighbors on Brownell are the best. (In addition to the food provided, our group donated a large sum to a local association that supports families of fallen officers.) As evidenced by the large amount of neighbors out clearing each others driveways off, I'd have to agree with her! The sense of community here in Glendale is awesome!
