Rangers vs. Blues

Amy and I enjoyed a night out by ourselves and saw the Rangers play the Blues. We bought tickets at the North Glendale silent auction and had good seats in the club level with "free" food - that is, the food was included with the ticket price.

It was a good game, with the Blues winning 2-1. Amy, as usual, enjoyed the big hits and the fights, and there was a good one with Cam Janssen throwing over 50 punches in his bout.

Emily's Biography Project

Emily's class had to pick a historical figure, research that person, and deliver an oral and written report about the person's life. Emily got to read hers at her class' language arts night this past week.

This was a great project for the class. The kids had to work very hard to do their research and writing, and after a week and a half of work Emily was very proud of herself for what she had accomplished. She was also very nervous about reading her biography in front of her entire class during the day, and her entire class and a standing room full of parents that evening.

A big thanks goes to Ninny Kathy for making the costume!

NEWS FLASH: A New Dinosaur Discovery in Missouri!

The Adamsaurus.

The Adamsaurus is both a plant and meat eater, likes to run and stomp around, and will occasionally have a bad attitude. This dinosaur sports two long and muscular legs, sometimes 2 or 3 claws on the end of the arms, and occasionally a snotty nose. The Adamsaurus also enjoys playing with dogs, reading books, and playing with the Emilysaurus, Daddytops, and Mommybigneck. The Adamsaurus is a very rare dinosaur as only one has been known to exist.

Here is a picture captured tonight of the Adamsaurus. Notice the generally pleasant demeanor on its face. It must have been well fed, exercised and rested for it to have such a happy expression.

Emily and her Posse

North Glendale hosts Trivia Nights not only for adults, but also the children in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Emily was invited to sit at a table of 7 other girls for 3rd grade trivia. The two girls organizing the table decided that the table's theme was American Girl and You. The girls are bringing and dressing like their American Girls. I volunteered to help with the table decoration. I made, using the best Christmas present EVER (thanks Paul!) paper dolls to represent the girls and their dolls. Each doll has a different theme. Emily and I had a blast dressing up the "girls" based on what she thought each girl would like!

Emily decided to be the cowgirl...

...Isabel a witch (she LOVES Harry Potter!)...

...Abigail a dancer (she's in dance class with Emily and Isabel)...

...Gabi a genie...

...Madison a mermaid...

...Abby a hula girl...

...Emma a princess...

...and Camille a bride (but we dressed her in purple instead of white!).

Em's Biography Project

Mrs. Woodward's 3rd grade class is researching historical figures, their accomplishments, and what their lives were like. The children choose one figure on which to present a first person biography. Emily wanted Abraham Lincoln seeing that we had lived in Springfield; however, someone chose him before Emily could claim him!

Since Emily has been reading the Little House books, she decided to research and do her report on Laura Ingalls Wilder. The children are required to dress as their subjects and since Mom doesn't sew (at least not very well!), we figured a call to Ninny Kathy was in order!

Em received the finished project last night. Didn't it turn out awesome? Thanks Ninny Kathy!

What Adam did today:

He stirred, he kneaded...

He rolled...

He cut....

He painted...

He cleaned...

and finally, he photographed.

Emily's Class Project

Emily's class, along with North Glendale's FANTASTIC art teacher, Megan Boyer, created this painting for the NG Silent Auction using the kids' fingerprints:

I knew how excited Emily would be if we won the painting, so I went to work. Occasionally I'd cruise by the art table and try to seem uninterested in the paintings. When it was just down to a few minutes left, I got to work and started bidding.
It appeared that the bidding was between me and a dad. I made my last bid with about 20 seconds left. The dad came over and with time running out (they were counting out the last 10 seconds so he knew exactly how much time was left) he started writing down his bid. Time was called before he even finished writing his name much less that the dollar amount he was bidding.
He tried to finish his bid AFTER time was called.
If you know me, you know that I see things, such as rules and laws, in black and white and this was definitely wrong. So, I called him out on his cheating. I believe my words were "You can't do that. That's cheating." He shrugged his shoulders and just looked at me. So, I said "If you really want to cheat and win the painting, that's fine. Go ahead." and just looked at him. He walked away!
I was telling this to someone on Sunday and I got the impression that she wasn't surprised that he tried to cheat and was trying to win the painting.
Anyways, I told Paul that I wouldn't bid on the class picture next year to let someone else have a chance to win it. However, if this guy's kid is in Em's class again and tries to win it, I might just have to out of spite! :)

Super Bowl XLIII

On our block, we see our neighbors during the spring, summer, and fall on almost a daily basis. We certainly see less of everyone during the winter months. We intended on having dinner with a few neighbors during the hibernation period, so we picked today and made it a very small Super Bowl party. Only a few more months until the warm weather brings everyone out again.
