Tae Kwon Doe Party

Adam went to his friend’s birthday party this past weekend at a Tae Kwon Doe studio. He loves to go around chopping people and inanimate objects, so we thought he would have a good time. Amy said it was a great party. Here are a few pictures.

Hoops

Here is a short clip of one of Emily's recent baskets. You'll notice her Jordan-like style of not looking to pass.

Emily's Recorder Recital

Emily's class gave their 4th grade recorder recital last week. I'm guessing it is easier on the ears to listen to this on your computer instead of sitting in the room with 20 LOUD recorders. I, myself, prefer to listen to the violin being practiced instead.

Adam's Christmas Show

Adam's preschool class gave their Christmas concert last week. Adam is very shy about singing and doing all of the motions, but he's starting to come around (a little bit).

Frosty

Adam gave us a concert while in the bath the other night. Enjoy!

Good Morning Emmy!

Emily and Adam were excited to see our favorite dog across the street. They ran down from her bedroom, grabbed some shoes, and braved the cold for some quality Emmy time. Emily gave her the Christmas present we got for her, and I captured Emmy's response of a big lick on the cheek!

Star Wars in Concert

We took the kids to the Scottrade Center this past Thursday to see Star Wars in Concert. The show features clips of the movie on a huge HD screen while the Royal Philharmonic plays music from the movie. The show was narrated by Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO.

As we entered, we found out that our tickets had been "upgraded" from the nosebleeds to the club level for some reason, which was a nice surprise. Before the show, we walked along the concourse to see the displays of costumes from the movie. My favorite was Darth Vader, but Adam loved it all.

The show itself was awesome. Going in, I wasn't sure how interesting it would be, but they did a really good job with Anthony Daniels setting the stage and with the video clips. They were effectively little music videos with different themes, such as Luke, Yoda, Darth Vader, etc. Adam has been to different events recently, and tends to wiggle around and talk during the show. This time he sat attentively, at times with a huge smile on his face. Emily enjoyed watching the violins in the orchestra, and seemed mesmerized by the speed at which they changed notes.

I have included a few clips from the show, below (don't tell George Lucas - you know how he is!)

Emily's Violin Recital

Emily's orchestra class had an open house today so that the kids could show the parents what they have learned in the first 3 months of the year. Here is Emily's performance - we are very proud of her!

A Busy Weekend...Santa, Friends, Running, and Basketball!

Wow. Another one of our typically busy weekends. We started out on Friday night by going to see the big man to deliver our Christmas wishes. Santa seemed to understand what Emily asked for, but seemed confused by the term "Vulture Droid." Perhaps the elves need to do some research. We followed Santa with a trip for ice cream with Ninny Cindy.

On Saturday, Emily had dance and headed to see the Nutcracker on Ice with her Girl Scout Troop, while Adam and I defeated evil Star Wars characters on the Wii, and enjoyed some college football (or at least I did). That night, we went to a friends house for dinner with them and another family. What a great night! It is times like this that we feel like we are really settling into St. Louis.

After getting home late on Saturday, we got up really early on Sunday to go run on the newly completed Interstate 64 in St. Louis with some friends. It was a brisk 25 degrees when we left home, but how many times do you get to run a 5k on a major interstate??
Sunday ended with Emily's first basketball game of the year, and our typical Sunday dinner out.

I was so busy this weekend that I had to take Monday off to recover.

Trick-or-Treating in the 'hood

Our street was HOPPING on our third Halloween in Glendale! So many kids, so much candy!

Per St. Louis tradition, both kids were armed with jokes, committed to memory, for the trick-or-treating event! (In St. Louis, you must do either a trick or tell a joke to get your loot!) Before heading out to tell their jokes, the kids joined the neighborhood kids for the annual picture. Thanks Kelli for being the official photog for the group!
Family picture - Mom, Dad, Laura Ingalls Wilder and Darth Vader.

The jokes Em and Adam told this year:
  • What is a mummy's favorite music? RAP!
  • What is a skeleton's favorite instrument? TromBONE
  • What does Tweety Bird say on Halloween? Trick-or-TWEET!

One joke that has stuck with me - what is a vampire's favorite drink? BLOODweiser! of course, my guess was "Bloody Marys?"

In the trick department, only two kids did a treat - they performed a dance for me. I heard a large group of kids a few doors down singing, but by the time they reached my house, all they wanted was to cut through the backyard to get home quicker because they were cold!!

Official Race Photos

A few pictures from the finish of the marathon when we could manage to muster some smiles despite sore muscles and swollen faces. Minutes after these pictures, our muscles siezed up and we could hardly walk. Good times.

Adam's Halloween Party

Today was Adam's Halloween Party at school. Like Emily's yesterday, the Halloween Parade through the neighborhood ty was cancelled due to rain. So, the kids paraded through the hallway and into the big play room where the parents took some pictures. Adam had a great day at school and is ready to trick-or-treat tomorrow night!

Emily's Halloween Party

Paul and I both attended Emily's Halloween Party yesterday. We realized that when her class was eating snack that she wasn't feeling well. Her teacher walked her to the nurse's office and reported back that Emily had a fever and was laying down. We took her home after the party and her fever was 102. She's laid pretty low today and hopefully will be back to normal before school resumes on Monday. Good thing she had today off anyways!
The kids made spiders out of ding dongs, candy, and pretzels. Here, Andrew seems to be really enjoying his snack!
